Amidst the chaos, I have found myself doing a lot of blog reading vs blog writing and I have only recently found the urge to get back into the swing of things. But...with a new passion for expanding the blog a bit and encompassing a bit more of our lifestyle in my writings. I love my recipe sharing section and I would love to do more of that. I also have loved some posts that I have read about simple ways to clean up living, from incorporating more healthy eating to arranging the home for more organized spaces, and I want to share some changes we have been making.
So first off, the title change. What is Semi-Crunchy Living? We have all heard the term crunchy, referring to a stereotype of hippie, organic, super natural living. In today's time with natural sections in every grocery stores and entire stores dedicated to organic and natural living, being crunchy is more accessible than before. Being crunchy isn't inherently bad or inherently better and everyone makes a choice for themselves on what is right for them, their family, and their home. You will NEVER find me judging another lifestyle or life choices of another on this blog.
For Preston and I, we simply can't afford to eat all organic all the time (yet!). We buy when organic is on sale, stockpile in our tiny apartment when and where we can, and try to live by the dirty dozen. If you don't know what the dirty dozen is, I highly recommend checking it out! We don't use regular dryer sheets (cancer sheets as I call them) and instead use organic version dryer sheets. I'm still working up to convincing P that dryer balls with essential oils will work just as well, but he is a creature of hard to break habits! We steer free of artificial dyes, preservatives, and flavorings when possible. Most things in our house are dairy free thanks to my lactose intolerance, except for that carton of Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby in the freezer for Preston. Our skincare is all free of animal products, artificial dyes, gluten, and fragrances, and is botanically based. My makeup (and Preston's on-camera foundation for work) follows those same guidelines as well
We do what works for us, when it works for us, which also means you might find us eating pizza downtown on a Tuesday date night. Our puppy eats close to organic food, we use regular dishwasher pods, and we still drink out of the occasional bpa containing plastic cup. Hence the "semi" in the Semi-Crunchy.
I still plan to write some pieces on marriage and newly-wed life, but I am so excited at the places that this blog is going to go over the next few months!
